About the book About Alice

About Alice is a collection of drawings and watercolors by Dutch painter Pat Andrea on the theme of Alice in Wonderland. These drawings are preparatory studies for 48 paintings based on Lewis Carroll's work, published by Diane de Selliers in 2006.

About the artist Pat Andrea

Pat Andrea was born in 1942 in The Hague (Netherlands). Trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague, he twice won the Royal Prize for Painting. While the painter draws his influences from the Italian Quattrocento and the Flemish Primitives, he adds to his work a desire to disrupt the established order. While the basis of his paintings always starts with a classical construction, he quickly introduces disruptive, chaotic, and baroque elements, whose sole purpose is to remind us of the fundamentals of the human soul.

"Alice's adventures in the enchanted kingdom take on an initiatory, sometimes dangerous turn, and Pat Andrea has managed to convey the scale of this fantastic adventure through his solid graphic style. Throughout this 'work in progress', the young girl is never the same. She changes her eyes, her features, her silhouette, her size, and it's wonderful. This is Pat Andrea's Alice."
