MARKOV Dmitry

Dmitry Markov was a Russian journalist and photographer. His work focused on life far from big cities: he photographed orphanages, psychiatric institutions, and train stations, his attention fixed on people who were rarely in the public eye. Markov wasn’t just a witness but deeply knew this life. Before becoming famous thanks to social media where he shared his photos, he worked as a volunteer in orphanages and psychoneurological institutions: his subjects often were people he knew, sharing their struggles as he himself was fighting drug addiction his whole life. After his death, his work was acknowledged as documentary photography, standing as an archive of people and places often forgotten.
