Born in 1980, Stephen Bauman’s first approach to art was with his older brother through graffiti, which provided him with the basis of design and drawing. In 2003, he entered the Florence Academy of Art, where he learned portraiture and developed his own artistic style, influenced by the works of artists he admired, such as Dagnan-Bouveret, Bastien-Lepage, and Wyeth. After a decade teaching in Europe, he came back to the US, where he became the Director of the Anatomy and Ecorche at the Florence Academy of Art in Jersey City.
Bauman’s work focuses on the human figure and the many expressions he can render through the various techniques he uses, such as oil painting, watercolor, graphite, and charcoal.
