The Art of Herbert Paus (EN)

Paus and Leyendecker shared numerous qualities: a posterised style, great silhouettes and great design. However, unlike Leyendecker, he is almost completely unknown today. So with this book, you have the opportunity to rediscover a great illustrator from the Golden Age!

From the publisher:

HERBERT PAUS is best known for his faultless draughtsmanship, his sense of design, and his brilliant use of colour for his his long-running series of covers for Popular Science magazine.

He was a member of the government's committee for pictorial publicity during WWI, and painted many effective posters to support the war effort. The success of these popular posters led to commissions from such publications as Woman's Home Companion, American Magazine, Collier's, and many others, firmly cementing his iconic status.

Paus also painted many popular advertisements for successful American companies including, Hart, Schaffner & Marx, Goodyear, General Motors, Certain-teed, and Victor Records. This new book presents a comprehensive overview of Paus' illustrious career, featuring scores of illustrations reproduced from original paintings, rare tear sheets and photographs; an entirely beautiful book!
