Omphalos, a very special book!
For the first time since the artist's death in October 2022, here is a new book by Kim Jung Gi, the legendary Korean artist! Entitled Omphalos, The Exhibition, this book is published by the Kim Jung Gi Museum.
It was on the occasion of “OMPHALOS” — the third exhibition at the Kim Jung Gi Museum in Seoul (March-September 2025) — that Jung Gi's wife and Hyun Jin Kim (the director of SuperAni) decided to publish the beautiful catalog. This new opus comprises 196 pages, a dozen photos of the artist and, above all, nearly 250 erotic illustrations, many of which are completely unpublished!
For the record, Kim Jung Gi began to strongly limit the number of erotic illustrations in his sketchbooks after 2015. The reason: it is forbidden to export illustrations that are “contrary to public decency” to the Chinese market (there is no problem with publishing them locally, but that is another story). Kim Jung Gi and Kim Hyun Jin therefore decided to split the sketchbooks into two types: non-erotic (exportable) and erotic, the first (and only) volume of which was Sketchbook 2015, also subtitled Omphalos.
As a result, almost all of the erotic (even VERY erotic) drawings created by Kim Jung Gi since 2015 have never been seen, except by the few people who have had the chance to leaf through his sketchbooks. We are therefore extremely pleased to present this beautiful catalog, exclusively imported directly from the museum. Take a look: hardcover, 196 pages, beautiful printing... And what's more, the price is very affordable: €49.
The exhibition has now closed, but the good news is that you can keep it alive on your bookshelves thanks to this book.
About illustrator Kim Jung Gi
Kim Jung Gi was probably the most famous illustrator in the world. His talent was beyond all human comprehension and was held in the highest of esteem by fans and fellow artists alike. His ability to render extremely complicated scenes near-perfectly from memory, without the aid of references, stretched the boundaries of what many artists believed was possible. He sadly passed away in October 2022.
