The Christie's-Daniel Maghen sales have been going strong, much to the delight of lovers and collectors of works dedicated to the 9th art.
This sale, entitled "Comics and Illustration", took place on Saturday 19 November 2016, and included more than 210 lots comprising plates, covers and first editions, with a total estimate of over €4 million. The sale took place in two parts, with the first part devoted to the rising author Jean-Pierre GIBRAT. A superb 58-page catalogue is dedicated to him, and is sure to delight all fans of this artist's work.
The second part, devoted to a host of authors, presents major works such as original plate no. 59 from "On a marché sur la lune" by Hergé, estimated at between €350,000 and €400,000, and a very rare plate from an album of "Tintin et le Thermo-Zéro" that was never published, estimated at between €200,000 and €250,000. There are also originals by 83 artists, from BELTRAN to ZEP, via Franquin, Giraud, Jacobs, Juillard, Uderzo, Tardi, Will and Yslaire - the list is impressive.
