About the book

Have you ever wondered how unicorns got their horns? The truth is, a little girl named June was wandering through her magical garden when she happened upon a group of odd little horses. They were all learning to fly. All but one. The poor little thing couldn’t fly at all and this was making him very sad. The sadder he became, the less it looked like he was going to be able to join his troop, making June very sad, too. What could June do to help her new friend? After talking to her mum and dad  she had a plan. A very sweet, very scrummy plan…

June is a wonderful central personality, displaying a range of emotions and thoughts – lively, empathetic and funny.  Parents feature briefly in the tale, as they take their child’s concern to help her new friend seriously. The importance of the parents's belief in her tale, implausible as it seemed, cannot be understated.

Once upon a Unicorn Horn offers a whimsical look at problem-solving and compassion for others. The vibrant illustrations, filled with texture and colour, bring every page to life, displaying feeling and a sense of fun and awareness, as well as depicting a beautiful, natural world. It is so full of joy and spirit, so enchanting. It’s just fabulous!

About the artist

Beatrice Blue is a Spanish visual development artist and freelance illustrator. As well as writing and illustrating picture books, she works in the animation industry. Beatrice lives with her husband, Dani, and her dog, Jungle, always surrounded by great adventures – and a lot of snow.
