He abandoned his accounting studies for cartooning in 1949 and began his career for Lo Scolaro, an Italian magazine for children. His art style was influenced by Messmer, McCay, Dirks, Barks, and Gottfredson. He’s the father of Pepito, whose adventures started in 1951. Around that time, he started working for Disney and drew several famous characters, including Mickey Mouse, Uncle Scrooge, and Donald Duck.
Throughout his life, he was the author of numerous comics and trained various artists by working with them on his creations. Bottaro also worked in the animation industry by adapting his most popular series into children’s cartoons.
