The Candlemas at LiberDistri 🥞✨

Candlemas Day is celebrated in France 40 days after Christmas. The French, Swiss, and Belgians associate this day with crêpes (a type of pancake, but not exactly the same) because, in the past, there was a superstition that anyone who didn't make crêpes on Candlemas Day would see their wheat rot for the whole year. 🌾

Candlemas can be celebrated very differently depending on the region of the world. In the United States and Canada, it has become Groundhog Day. Here, there are no crêpes in sight! The tradition is to watch a groundhog emerge from its burrow—the way it moves is supposed to indicate whether winter will be long... In England, it is Pancake Day, as the British prefer pancakes to crêpes. In Mexico, tamales take center stage. These are made from corn dough mixed with various sweet or savory fillings and wrapped in banana or corn leaves. Many other countries have their own ways of celebrating Candlemas, but the examples we have given already show how varied the traditions are. 🌍
