André Juillard (born in 1948) is a French scriptwriter and comic strip artist. He is a leading author of historical French comic strips and is best known for drawing the series Les 7 Vies de l'Épervier, Masquerouge and Plume aux vents, all scripted by Patrick Cothias. In 2000 he began drawing Blake and Mortimer.
He has received numerous awards, including the Alpha'Art award for best French album in 1994 for Le Cahier bleu, the Grand prix de la ville d'Angoulême in 1996 and the Max und Moritz prize in 2006.
About the book:
In 2006, André Julliard showed us another facet of himself with the publication of Entracte: a biography in pictures, illustrating the process of drawing his comic strips, as well as previously unpublished sketches and drafts that he drew only for his own pleasure.
Since then, the number of "free drawings" has soared! Devoting himself totally to this exercise which, he admits, is as indispensable to him as breathing, Juillard has filled dozens of notebooks with vibrant sketches, sometimes enhanced with colour, mostly representing female nudes. We find his heroines: Ariane, Louise, Eve... and other inspirations: photographers, painters, illustrators, or colleagues and friends...
Asked by French National Radio, André Juillard is shows us in a video where he drew Carnets Secrets.
