I started with an illustration that I did for Instagram; it was a narrative experiment that I like to do in my illustration work, most notably for Libération. The comic strip form is a succession of boxes used for illustrative and graphic purposes and is not intended for the purpose of a classic narrative sequence; this allows me to explore various aspects of an idea from different angles.
The shape of the panels and their arrangement echo the theme, a continuation of the idea in the form of a specific layout with a multidirectional reading direction. Here, the top strip, with its crescent moon and crescent planet panels, evokes the idea of speed and progression through space. To fit into the requested format, I added an extra line or strip below, in mirror image, to show the main characters.
Symmetry and harmonious composition are especially important to me. As there was not enough content for the format, I added the BOLCHOI ARENA lettering on the sides, and to make it all fit together, I turned the letters into boxes and the elements they contain become typographic elements. I love wandering around an illustration or painting, discovering details, finding diverse levels of reading. It is this pleasure as a spectator that I have turned into a pleasure as a draughtsman.
The final idea was to make a poster representing the whole universe of the series in terms of themes and feelings. The breakdown of the series itself is not that daring, but I am allowing myself to experiment with narratives within a classic narrative. This framework is quite exciting: the more you are aware of the constraints, the more you flourish by skirting around them.
- Aseyn
This 3-volume comic book has had a major impact on the comics scene in recent years and is based on a fascinating script by Boulet. It combines space adventure with observations on video games and the increasing virtualisation of the world. Aseyn takes us away with mastery, offering us pages of beauty that are reminiscent of the illustrations of Moebius and Otomo.
It is worth mentioning that Bolchoi Arena was twice nominated at the Angoulême International Comics Festival.
Printed in a large format of 91 x 61 cm (36 x 24 inches) on very fine art paper, this print will be easy to hang on the wall, as frames of this size are readily available in major furniture stores.
Please note: this is a limited-time sale taking place from 6pm on Friday, October 4th, until 6pm to Monday, October 7th, 2024.
The concept is simple: instead of offering a fixed number of copies of an art print and quickly selling out, a time limited sale is organised and the final quantity of prints are limited to the number of copies sold during that time. So if you have a slow connection or can't get online in the minutes after the print is released, you are still guaranteed the object of your desire, in this case a high quality art print, ready for framing and hanging in a choice spot for optimum viewing!
These limited editions will be numbered according to the number of copies ordered and accompanied with a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist. For example, if 238 art prints are ordered during the 3 days of the sale, the print run and numbering will be from 1/238 to 238/238 and the illustration will not be offered for sale again.
Aseyn and Boulet will sign all art prints and supporting documents.
If you've ordered from us before, you are aware of the care we take with our packaging, and we've further strengthened the tubes with bubble wrap + reinforced double-wall cardboard + stiffening cardboard... watch Jean-Christophe's torture test on YouTube to see for yourself!
Shipments within France will be tracked, and shipments abroad will be sent tracked or untracked according to the buyer's choice.
Delivery is expected towards the end of summer, giving you ample time to enjoy vacations, holidays, weekends away, whether your destination is the mountains, the beach or the city, knowing that good things come to those who wait and that time flies when you are having fun:)
After printing, numbering and signing, we will wrap and post the parcels to you, safely delivered into your eager hands, ready for your own unique creative framing and hanging.
